FUN CLUB Featured Activities
Here are just a few of the amazing things you can do with 4-H CAPITAL
Wild in the City
Live on the wild side! Learn about wildlife in and around cities, and how animals live among us in an urban setting. Studies include owls, coyotes, bobcat, deer, raccoons, opossums, bats, insects, and the habitats where all these creatures live. Hands-on activities include learning about tracks and tracking, furs and skulls, owl pellet dissection. You'll also learn to build a bug house, work with leather, and more. Grades 1-2; Grades 3-8.
4-H Club
If you join the 4-H Club, you're committed to meet once or twice or week for the school year, and have opportunities for all kinds of great 4-H activities: outdoor adventures, woodworking, photography, animal science, youth fair and community service, and much more. Grades 3-8.
Urban Animal Science
This is the "classic 4-H activity" you'll raise animals like goats or rabbits for competition at livestock shows. Along the way, you'll learn everything about your animals: their life cycles, health and welfare, feeding and nutrition, breed management, and much more. You'll even get a taste of veterinary science! Grades 3-8
Archery
4-H Afterschool presents Archery Alley! Archery is a lifelong sport that can be enjoyed from age 9 to 99. It is safer than any sport except table tennis. 4-H CAPITAL's four state-certified archery instructors and special guest leaders can get you started. You'll develop your eye-hand coordination, learn proper archery safety practices, and maybe even hit the bulls eye before you're through! Endorsed and supported by the National Archery in Schools Program and Texas Parks and Wildlife. Group sizes limited. Grades 4-8.
Babysitting
Learn about caring for and playing with children of different ages, making puppets and toys, basic first aid, personal safety and keeping others safe, emergency situations, and getting a job as a babysitter. Ages 11-14.
Jr. Master Gardener
Jr. Master Gardener offers horticulture and environmental science studies through fun and creative activities. Modeled after the highly popular Master Gardener Program. Grades 3-6.
Plant Pals
Explore how plants interact with many areas of our lives. They can be found in our clothes, medicines, and homes. Learn about plants and their friends. Hands-on activities include building a terrarium, a worm hotel, a Chia Pet plant, or a bug trap/bug house. You could also make a bird feeder, plant seeds and raise your plants, and more. Grades 1-2.
Red, White and Blue... Texas and You
Explore Texas' cultural and natural heritage, including Six Flags Over Texas, Native Americans, Vaqueros, Buffalo Soldiers, and pioneer men and women. Hands-on activities include leather working, making rain sticks or corn husk dolls, grinding corn and dried foods, making pioneer toys, and more. Grades 3-5.
Rocketry
Build your own rocket from a kit! Watch it launch and then parachute back down to earth. Design a bottle rocket made from a 2-liter soda bottle. Filled with water, these rockets can soar to over 100 feet in the air! Also learn how to make an altimeter to measure how high your rocket goes. Grades 3-8.
Science Circus/Science Odyssey
Explore several different areas of science, including electricity, aerospace,engineering, geology, and chemistry. You might build an electromagnet, construct an earthquake-proof tower, or experiment with chemical reactions. Grades 1-2; Grades 3-8.
Snackin' Healthy
Taste test lots of different foods! You'll make healthful snacks, play games, sing, and read as you learn what makes your body strong. Can you make magical fruit salad or "squeezy cheeses"? Can you paint toast? You'll learn to make these snacks and much more with 4-H Snackin' Healthy. Grades 1-2.
Solar Power Up & The Fun Never Sets
Look into the future and see a solar power car. Now, let's make a model of that! You can design and engineer a solar-powered model car. In this class you'll explore renewable and nonrenewable energy while experimenting with potential and kinetic energy. Explore the possibilities of solar energy and all the wonderful gadgets solar power can operate. Build and race a mousetrap car to explore stored energy and design, build, and race a solar car as the grand finale! Grades 3-8.
Sportfishing
Don't know much about fishing? If you think you just can't catch fish, sportfishing is for you. Learn to cast, tie basic knots, recognize good fishing habitats, and conduct aquatic ecology experiments. Practice your skills on a field trip to a local fishing site. In Sportfishing II, expand your knot-tying skills and learn more about fishing equipment and fish biology. Also make your own bait. Now that you've caught it, what do you do with it? Learn ways to prepare and store fish. Complete the class and receive your own rod and reel and basic tackle box, and a Junior Angler certification from Texas Parks &Wildlife! Grades 3-8.
