What is 4-H?

4-H builds tomorrow's leaders. Through 4-H, youth have fun while meeting new people, learning new life skills, and building self-confidence. 4-H participants also learn responsibility through setting and achieving goals, so ultimately they can develop lifelong skills for achieving personal success.

4-H stands for Head, Heart, Hands, Health

What is 4-H CAPITAL?

Started in 1992, 4-H CAPITAL (Children And Parents Involved In Technology And Literacy) serves Austin, Texas, youth and their families. The project provides hands-on learning experiences that not only help youth become successful adults but also reduce risk-taking behaviors that inhibit success. 4-H CAPITAL AmeriCorps Project provides youth with positive relationships through planned mentoring in our after school programs. By establishing these relationships we hope to provide today's youth with a greater sense of self-worth, empowerment, and direction. To assist youth in acquiring knowledge, building character, and developing life skills in a fun learning environment that will enable them to be come self-directing, productive members of society. running This is achieved through our afterschool and day camp programming. Our instructors have plenty of one on one time with children. Field trips and some of our activities allow for a 1:4 ratio of teacher to students. In our after school classes 10-15 students are in each class. Given that most of our activities are hands on and require a lot of instruction, a teacher has to move around and work with one on one and in small groups with in the class room setting.
